How Does Our Dog Training Work?
Step 1: Training Consultation
We initiate our training with a free consultation session, where we discuss the needs of your dogs and come up with the best training programs for them. This process takes about an hour and can be done online, over a call, or in person.
Step 2: Choose an Appropriate Dog Training Program
We have a number of dog training programs for you to choose from. Once you decide to sign up for a dog training program we will have you complete an enrollment form (either online or in person). We collect a deposit to hold your spot. The remaining balance is due at the start of the training.
Step 3: We provide the training, socialization, and care for your dog
We start to train your dog according to the chosen plan. If you have chosen our Board and Train program, we’ll keep your dog at our place until they are fully trained. Oncethat phase is over, we’ll move on to train you so that your dog understands and responds to you more than to us. Your training usually takes around 3 to 5 sessions. Once you complete Phase 2, you will have a super happy dog who is under control, even around distractions.
Dogs vary based upon several factors, including breed, social skills, behavior, fears, temperament, etc. Therefore, a general approach will not work for all of them. Hence,to ensure the best results we offer personalized training for every dog.
Moreover, before starting our training program we conduct a thorough discussion based on how you want to see your dog behave. This enables us to train your dog according to your lifestyle so that it can easily adapt to it once trained.
We utilize a balanced training approach. We specialize in marker training (classical condition), using verbal markers, this means we will figure out what really motivates your dog in order to be able to communicate with your dog when they are correct.
Our training style is unique in that we not only give you the control needed to navigate various aspects of the human environment with your canine companion but also offer the communication needed to successfully have your dog wanting to perform the commands, having fun and staying engaged with you, even around distractions.
With regards to the commands that your dog will be learning, we will have your dog pattern a specific state of mind for specific commands. For example, when it comes to having your dog ‘Heel’ politely at your side, we will want your dog in a calm state of mind with low energy. For this particular exercise, we will take the same approach to train your dog as is used to train Service Dogs. The ‘Heel’ command will give you the control needed to navigate through public environments successfully with a calm dog.
When it comes to the ‘Come’ command, we want your dog in a more reactive state of mind with lots of energy. We want him running, chasing and excited. We will test your dog to figure out what your dog really enjoys (toys, a certain type of treat, chase games etc). Once we know what he likes, we will incorporate that into certain aspects of his training like the ‘come’ command. This will enable us to build the correct muscle memory of a beautiful, flashy ‘come’ command that has him running towards you every time you call.
Once your dog masters our dog training system, we’ll move on to train you on it so that you can easily interact with your dog.

We found out about IQ K9 from a good family friend when we were at our wits end with our 7 month old white lab puppy, Sandy.
